Alamo Helicopter Tours

A unique attraction found on San Antonio's South side at Stinson airport is Alamo Helicopter Tours. This is a relatively new attraction that gives visitors an aerial view of certain parts of San Antonio. The office for Alamo helicopter tours is located in the main terminal of the Stinson airport and is owned and operated by a local San Antonio family. This highflying, San Antonio attraction is definitely worth the reasonable expense that is paid for a helicopter ride across the Alamo city.

the San Antonio helicopter ride

Arriving at the Alamo helicopter Tours office, in the Stinson airport terminal, you are greeted by a member of the company's staff. You are then asked for your wait and given brief safety instructions prior to the flight. You're encouraged to bring cameras and video recorders. If there is more than one person going on the ride, your weight will dictate where you sit in the helicopter. Generally, lighter passengers are given the front seat for the flight... Don't take it personally though. While the safety explanation is going on in the office, the pilot is out starting the helicopter up prior to your ride. You are then escorted out of the helicopter, told to keep your head low and told not to raise your hands for safety reasons. You get in, buckle your seatbelts and you're ready to go.

The pilot talks to the tower, requests clearance, and off you go. The most common flight customers take is a flight over the San Antonio Missions and around downtown San Antonio. It's only about a 30 minute flight but it is truly an exceptional and enjoyable ride above the city. One of the great things about Alamo helicopter tours is the fact that they keep their windows on the helicopter extremely clean. You're able to take pictures, take video or just look around.
