Air travel to and from San Antonio is largely through the international airport. Below are services needed for air travelers and pilots to and from the San Antonio airport. The airport is located on the city's north side. Terminals, jet charter services, general aviation services, and FBO's are easily accessible and provide full aircraft services and air travel options.
There are numerous flight options when traveling to and from San Antonio and the San Antonio International Airport handles commercial flights and general aviation air travel with ease. San Antonio Int'l has three runways that can handle the largest of jets with large freight planes routinely traveling in and out of San Antonio. Private aircraft and general aviation constitutes roughly half of San Antonio's air traffic with commercial airlines and freight planes accounting for the other half of the flights into San Antonio. Even with all of the Air Force bases in San Antonio, the President himself chooses to land at the San Antonio International Airport. See the pictures of Air Force One landing at San Antonio International.
Traveling through the San Antonio airport is quite simple as there are only two terminals and the terminals are not that big so travel through the airport is fast and efficient. Passing through security is a fast process with the exception of holiday travel time and even then, the passenger line moves steadily along. The only hold-up in the airport is at the airline ticket counters which can take a long time depending on the season and number of travelers. The best thing to do is buy and print airline tickets from the internet, print the tickets and boarding passes, and check baggage at the curb.
The San Antonio airport is not a hub airport so connecting flights are rare meaning San Antonio is primarily a final airport destination or flight origin airport. Being inside the secure terminal area means buying a snack is like buying a meal and buying a meal is like buying a feast and more importantly, there is not an ATM machine inside the secure terminal area so get your cash before coming to the airport.
