San Antonio Amtrak Rail Travel
Two Amtrak trains service San Antonio. The Sunset Limited travels east to Orlando and west to Los Angeles. The Texas Eagle travels north to Chicago while San Antonio is the south most stop. The Amtrak trains depart from Sunset Station. Passenger rail service to and from San Antonio is daily on the Texas Eagle while the Amtrak Sunset Limited is not as frequent.
Amtrak Schedule
The two trains that service San Antonio are frequent enough that the rail and history buff can meet concurrently in San Antonio on a daily basis. Amtrak trains arrive and depart through Sunset Station. The San Antonio Amtrak station (SAS) has become somewhat of a nightlife magnet but the Amtrak rail traveler is going to leave or arrive through Sunset Station if traveling via San Antonio. San Antonio Sunset Station
Sunset Station is located in St. Paul Square just east of downtown. Seeing that the Amtrak leaves at such an early hour from San Antonio, passengers won't have time to look around. But just in case time does allow, the Sunset Station depot offers historical viewing as the rail station was built in 1902 following rail track construction in 1877. The steam locomotive at the station was built in 1916 and will keep a rail history buff busy while waiting for his departing train. The architecture of Sunset Station falls in line with San Antonio's unique historical construction. Sunset Station is a real treat for Amtrak rail passengers waiting for their departing train.
